21st February is the International Day for the Protection of the World’s Bears. Therefore, the entire educational community of ITAF El Tambo, together with other local educational institutions and the entities that give life to the conservation initiative for the conservation of the Andean bear, “Conservemos la vida”, celebrated this day with a programme full of arts, games and information about the importance of protecting our biodiversity.
Smurfit Kappa and its Foundation supported the students of the ITAF to help make this a successful celebration, which left a clear message about what they can do to protect and conserve the Andean bear. The community of El Tambo has the privilege of living close to the Munchique National Natural Park, which serves as a habitat for this species.
“The celebration of this type of events, focused on the protection of our biodiversity, are fundamental, moreover if we develop them together with the educational community, neighbouring schools and families, because they promote awareness of the importance of valuing and protecting our natural resources. We want the ITAF, through the “Conservamos la Vida” project, to become a benchmark in the protection of the Andean Bear. “ John Escobar, Teacher and Coordinator of the Environmental Education Committee, ITAF El Tambo.
