On 12th April 12, the El Caracolí Child Development Center was visited by Finance Minister, Mauricio Cárdenas, and the ICBF National Director, Karen Abudinen. This was to, recognise the importance of early childhood programs in our country, and to see how they can be executed with the resources available to the State to improve comprehensive care for children from 0 to 5 years..
For the Smurfit Kappa Colombia Foundation it is very satisfying to receive these visits that recognize the work we do every day in our different lines of action and their related programs. Attending the visit were the Director of the Foundation, Beatriz Mejia, the Vice President of the Corrugated Division, Edgar Cortes and the Director of El Caracolí, Maria Elisa Korgi.
They took a tour of the facilities of the complex, visited the library where they learned about the activity “The Traveling Suitcase” (awarded as one of the best proposals for Reading Promotion in Early Childhood). After that, they lived the “Gourmet Mathematics” experience, an innovative proposal that seeks to develop mathematical skills using games based around the kitchen. During this activity the guests had lunch with the children according to the nutritional plan of El Caracolí.
The visit ended with a meeting with parents, in which the Minister and the Director of ICBF praised the excellent work of the CDI El Caracolí and the importance of the commitment of the families that have the opportunity to access this service.
